Welcome to the eighth grade and our back to school picnic!
August 19, 2011
Dear parents and students,
Welcome to the eighth grade! This is just a quick letter to invite you to the official eighth grade back-to-school picnic to be held the evening of the first day of school. This year we will have the picnic at school. (I’m truly sorry I could not come up with a better location.) The kids and I will spend a little time on Monday morning preparing an entrĂ©e (if I can think of one), and I will put it in the oven to be ready to eat at 6:00 P.M. that evening. After dinner, I will talk to parents about more than you ever wanted to know about eighth grade, while the kids play outside or in the gym. Your entire family is invited. If possible, I would like every family represented. I will discuss curriculum, materials, methods, field trips, charitable activities, special projects, and your questions. Parents will also select the destination of the eighth grade trip on that evening. Attendance at the picnic will exempt you from Curriculum Night, if your only child at Trinity is an eighth grader, which will be held the next night, August 30.
I hope all of you can come Monday, August 29, arriving if possible by 6:00 P.M., for our first gathering of the year. I will provide a main course and green salad. If you would like to bring an item to add to the picnic, that would be great, but if you don’t have time, just come. The one thing I really need for you to bring is fruit juice of any kind for Eighth Grade Punch! Please let your student know how many people in your family will be attending, so I can take a count on Monday morning. If for some reason you cannot make it, please arrange for your student to ride with another student; I just don’t want anyone left out, if at all possible. Call or email me on my cell phone if you have any questions (586-918-1071). My email is sbuss@trinityct.org.
Looking forward to seeing you soon, and again, welcome to the eighth grade!
Blessings,
Sally Buss
P.S. Students, don’t forget to finish Everfound (Chapter 40-end). We will have a Socratic discussion during the first week of school, so you might want to start writing at least 10 questions for which there is no definitive answer, as well as take a quick objective test to document you did the reading; I want to give you credit for all your hard work.
