Good news! We were able to get tickets to the Diary of Anne Frank on Monday, October 18 at 10 A.M., Romeo and Juliet on Monday, February 14, 20011 at 10:00 A.M., and The Secret Life of Bees, on Tuesday, March 22 at 1:00 P.M. I will be sending home a permission slip for all three and a request for $15 to cover the cost of all three. I also ordered four adult tickets, in addition to mine, at $10 a piece, for each play. I think we can get them there in five cars. If you would like to chaperone any of these trips, and know now, let me know on the permission slip. Otherwise we will figure out drivers closer to each event. Thank you.
Homework
1. Grammar: Exercise 4 and 5 page 367-8
2. Catching Fire: Prepare for Socratic discussion with your open ended questions on chapters 25-27 or any other general question on the book. Book Reports due tomorrow.
3. History: Chapter 18-1, 1-5.
Carry the Joy of Jesus: Make a Ripple
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Eighth Grade Picnic Tonight!
I will keep this brief, since we will all be together tonight. Just a reminder the picnic is at 6:00 in the cafeteria, followed by almost too much information for parents about eighth grade. We will make a final decision on the destination of the eighth grade trip this evening.
The only homework tonight is "My Box"...10 items max, counting 3 photos max, in a shoebox, and tied closed with something. The box is to include items that reflect who you are and what is important to you. Due tomorrow.
See you tonight,
Mrs. Buss

Welcome back to school! Yes, it's a good thing.
Hola, mis estudiantes. Welcome to the eighth grade. I am going to insert the eighth grade back-to-school letter, in case you have misplaced yours.
I still haven't figured out what we are having for dinner Monday night, but think of it as a mystery dinner. Try to have Catching Fire completed by Monday. The Mockingjay books arrived yesterday, but no one gets the book until all of the book reports have been turned in...not to mention receiving your mockingjay pins! (Power to the Rebellion!) I also would like to have the date of your baptismal birthday;I didn't know mine, so I called the church where I was baptized and they gave it to me. If you don't have yours, try that. At any rate, I can't wait to see you, talk with your parents, and get this year going. Feel free to email me if you have any questions. (sbuss@trinityct.org) See you Monday!
P.S. Bring Catching Fire to school on Monday!

Dear parents and students,
Welcome to the eighth grade! This is just a quick letter to invite you to the official eighth grade back-to-school picnic to be held the evening of the first day of school. This year we will have the picnic at school. (I’m truly sorry I could not come up with a better location.) The kids and I will spend a little time on Monday morning preparing an entree, and I will put it in the oven to be ready to eat at 6:00 P.M. that evening. After dinner, I will talk to parents about more than you ever wanted to know about eighth grade, while the kids play outside or in the gym. Your entire family is invited. If possible, I would like every family represented. I will discuss curriculum, materials, methods, field trips, charitable activities, special projects, and your questions. Parents will also select the destination of the eighth grade trip on that evening. Attendance at the picnic will exempt you from Curriculum Night (if you only have an eighth grader) which will be held September 7.
I hope all of you can come Monday, August 30, arriving if possible by 6:00 P.M., for our first gathering of the year. I will provide a main course (still thinking about that one) and green salad. If you would like to bring an item to add to the picnic, that would be great, but if you don’t have time, just come. The one thing I really need for you to bring is fruit juice of any kind for Eighth Grade Punch! Please let your student know how many people in your family will be attending, so I can take a count on Monday morning. If for some reason you cannot make it, please arrange for your student to ride with another student; I just don’t want anyone left out, if at all possible. Call me on my cell phone if you have any questions (586-918-1071). My email is sbuss@trinityct.org.
Looking forward to seeing you soon, and again, welcome to the eighth grade!
Blessings,
Sally Buss
P.S. Students, how are those book reports on Catching Fire coming?
